Em novembro, tive a oportunidade de visitar a Islândia. Já queria ir lá desde que era pequena e finalmente tive a oportunidade de o fazer. Tive uma experiência incrível e foi uma das melhores viagens que já fiz. A cidade é absolutamente linda e nada em Portugal se compara.

Felizmente, tive muita sorte com a aluna que me recebeu porque ela era bastante simpática e prestável e fez me sentir bem naquele país estrangeiro. As amigas dela também eram muito simpáticas e diverti-me imenso com todas elas. Para além dos estudantes islandeses também me tornei amiga de estudantes dos outros países como por exemplo da Eslovénia, da Finlândia e até de Espanha. Formámos todas um laço e passamos muito tempo juntas enquanto explorávamos a cidade.

Claro eu reparei em muitas diferenças culturais. Os islandeses têm muitos hábitos diferentes que pareceram estranhos no início mas que eventualmente nos vamos habituando. Também reparei que as pessoas são muito calmas e “low-key” o que não é nada comum em Portugal por isso foi um bocado difícil ajustar me à primeira, mas depois de os conhecer melhor, tudo melhora.

Em conclusão, foi uma das melhores experiências que já tive e sei que vai ficar na minha memória para sempre. Estou muito grata pela oportunidade e espero um dia repeti-la. Para além disse estou agradecida àqueles que me fizerem sentir bem-vinda na Islândia, tanto professores como alunos.

In November I had the opportunity to visit Iceland. I’ve been wanting to go there since I was little and I finally had a chance to do it. I had an amazing experience and it was one of the best trips I ever made. The city is absolutely gorgeous and nothing in Portugal compares to it.

I was very lucky with my host student because she was very nice and helpful and she made me feel good in that foreign country. Her friends were also very nice and cool and I had fun with all of them.  Besides the Icelandic students, I also became friends with people from other countries, like Slovenia, Finland and even Spain. We all bonded very well and got to spend a lot of time together while exploring the city.

Of course I noticed some cultural differences. They have a lot of different habits that might seem strange at first but after a while, we get used to it.  And I also noticed that people there are very calm and low-key, which is not common in my country so it’s a little hard to adjust at first but, once you get to know them, everything is much better.

So, in conclusion it was one of the best experiences I ever had and I know it will stay in my memory for many years. I´m grateful for this opportunity and I hope to do this again someday. And I’m thankful for those who helped me feel welcomed in Iceland, both students and teachers.

A primeira vez que voei fui à Islândia. Bem, para primeira vez, foi realmente algo fantástico. Eu nunca pensei fazer uma viagem como esta, mas a verdade é que adorei! Senti-me, e ainda sinto, extremamente feliz por ter sido escolhida.

No começo, tenho que admitir, estava um pouco nervosa e apreensiva porque ia ser uma semana longe de todos os que  conheço, da minha cidade, das minhas rotinas. Mas, rapidamente, fiquei animadíssima; com a aproximação do dia da viagem, percebi que ia ser algo que nunca iria esquecer.

Vi tantas coisas, conheci tantas pessoas e, definitivamente, pratiquei o meu inglês! Fiquei extremamente impressionada com a organização da cidade, a cidadania de todos e a capacidade geral de falar Inglês.

Acho que tive muita sorte com a minha host. A Ásta foi muito simpática, atenciosa e, assim que lá cheguei, senti-me bem-vinda. Ainda que a nossa forma de ser e comportamentos fossem bastantes diferentes - o que é normal visto vivermos em dois países com culturas muito diferentes - acredito que nos demos bem e realmente aproveitamos o tempo que tivemos para nos conhecermos.

Reiquejavique é uma bela cidade com lugares incríveis. É uma cidade com poucos edifícios altos, o que torna, na minha opinião, a cidade mais agradável e mais aconchegante. Adorei a arte de rua, os cafés e todos os marcos históricos como a Harpa, Hallgrímskirkja e os variadíssimos museus. Mas as atrações naturais, foram para mim, o ponto alto desta viagem. Ver a Gullfoss, The Golden Circle, os Geysir, o lago Tjörnin foi algo incrível.

Foi uma experiência que me fez crescer de maneiras diferentes; além de todas as coisas novas que vi, a mais importante e aquela que considero a mais valiosa, durante esta viagem, foi poder conversar com pessoas de toda a Europa e ser capaz de aprender tantas coisas apenas dialogando com eles.

The first time I flew I went to Iceland. Well, for the first time, it was really something fantastic. I never thought to make a trip like this one but the truth is that I loved it and I felt, and I still feel, extremely happy to have been chosen.

In the beginning, I have to admit, I was a little nervous and apprehensive because it was going to be a week far away from everyone I know, from my city and my routines. But then I got really excited, as the day of the trip approached, and I realized that it was going to be something that I would never forget.

I saw so many things, met so many people and definitely practised my English! I was really impressed by the organization of the city, the citizenship of everyone that lives there and the general ability of speaking English.

I think I was really lucky with the host I got. Ásta for me was a really nice, attentive mate and the minute I got there I felt very welcome. Even though our way of being and behaviours were different, which is normal as we come from two very different countries and cultures, I believed that we got along and we really took the time we had to get to know each other.

Reykjavik is a beautiful city with incredible places. It´s a city with few high buildings, which makes, in my opinion, the city look more pleasant and cosier. I loved the street art, the coffee shops and all the landmarks like the Harpa, Hallgrímskirkja and the museums. But the natural landmarks were for me the high point of this trip. Seeing the Gullfoss Waterfall, the Golden Circle, the Geysir, and the Tjörnin Lake was something incredible.

It was an experience that made me grow up in different ways; besides all the new things I saw, the most important and the one I consider to be the most valuable, during this trip, was to be able to talk to people from all over Europe and to be capable of learning so many things just by talking to them.
